Over the weekend of September 14–16, more than 1000 students from across the global arrived at the University of Waterloo, for 36-hours of hacking, networking and innovative thinking. High school and university student from various backgrounds are tasked with creating hardware or software projects within the timeframe, while having access to mentors, sponsors, workshops and food (and a place in the engineering building for quick naps!). Students enjoyed a yoga session, massages, therapy dogs, and a fierce cup stacking competition, to take breaks from their projects.
The team at Ecopia was excited to sponsor this amazing event, helping keep students energized and motivated with food and swag, along with sharing more about what Ecopia does, and the positions available within the organization. And with workshops about AI and machine learning, we found ourselves impressed over and over again by the projects being created.
As part of our engineering team, coop students from various schools including Western, University of Toronto, and University of Waterloo, are integral to what we do at Ecopia. As a company who was founded out of the University of Waterloo, we know the importance of staying connecting to the next generation of talent, and we look forward to many more hackathons, and events where we can showcase what we do!
