June 29, 2022 -- Toronto, Ontario -- Ecopia AI (“Ecopia”) announced today that it has been selected by the Collier County Sheriff’s Office to deliver high-precision mapping data to enhance location accuracy and improve emergency response times. Ecopia will use its AI-based mapping systems to mine geospatial imagery to create a high-precision map featuring all property driveways and connected pavements across the county's project area.
The resulting maps will be incorporated into the county’s transportation network, which will enhance the ability of first responders to quickly locate those in need of emergency services. Traditionally, emergency call routing systems are designed to route to the segment of the road centerline (RCL) associated with the caller’s location address. This can often prove to be inadequate, especially for properties located on corners or those with long and winding driveways. In such cases, the actual driveway entrance to the property may be located on a non-intuitive RCL segment or a different street from the address altogether resulting in longer response times during emergencies. This results in the need for a comprehensive map of all driveways in the region. The creation and maintenance of this mapping database to date has historically been a time-intensive exercise done by hand by GIS specialists.
By partnering with Ecopia's AI, the Collier County's Sheriff's Office will gain access to accurate, up-to-date, and comprehensive mapping data for driveways and connected pavement throughout the county in a timely and scalable manner.
“We’re excited to put Ecopia’s high-precision mapping data into action,” said Sheriff Kevin Rambosk. “This initiative will provide great benefits to our community. With more accurate foundational location data, Collier County’s emergency responders will be able to arrive at the exact location of a distressed caller, saving precious time and lives.”
“We value the trust placed in Ecopia by municipal and public safety organizations,” said Sean Lowery, Senior Director, Product and Business Development of Ecopia. “We’re committed to upholding that trust by continuing to provide high-precision geospatial data, helping enable efficient and safe communities across the country.”
